Unlikely Bug Swatter
The Better Half and I were enjoying an afternoon on the patio swing watching the birds at the feeders and whatever else we fancy. At one point, a bug (yellow jacket, I think) lighted on the swing canopy (left). Of course the bug isn’t in the picture because I grabbed our air soft pistol (right) and sent it to bug-Valhalla with a single shot. I usually use the air pistol to run off a couple of pigeons or a squirrel or two that come around from time to time. This was the first use against an insect. We both laughed at the sight of the bug getting hit square in the thorax.

HAH! Good shootin’!
We noticed a few cruising around our backyard yesterday. They were checking out under the eaves like they were looking for a good place to start a nest, so it might be time to get some spray.
My airsoft is a 99.99% duplicate of my Kimber Custom TLE, so I don’t think the neighbors would be too happy if I went running around blasting bugs with it!

We use some stuff that sends a projectile stream out 15 feet or so. Works good and pisses the bugs off big time.
I got the transparent air gun with the big orange tip just to be sure that nobody could mistake it for a firearm. We also have the transparent AR - the two came in a set that I got for about $40 at Big 5.

Nice shot.
If I did that here in NY I would probably get arrested for brandishing a firearms or for animal cruelty. I’ll have to give it a try.
As for my backyard, postage stamp that it is, I saw what at first I thought was an all black butterfly today. Then I realized it had just a small patch of orange or yellow on the very rear portion of the wings where they narrow the most. Wish I had my camera handy but did not. Never saw one like it before, maybe never will again.
All the best,
Glenn B

The Better Half is in charge of taking most of the pictures. She has a nice Canon EOS Xsi 12 megapixel unit. Does circles around my little Canon powershot. Most of her pix show up on the other blog.
We’re in AZ tonight on our way to supervise the start of construction.
