Escape from Alcatraz Taxifornia
The last several trips out of town have (partially) been driven by our desire and intent to relocate to a more second-amendment-friendly place. With that goal in mind, we started looking into acquiring a travel trailer that we can use while traveling to potential relocation sites and (possibly) as a temporary residence outside the state while we look.
Clickable Image - one of the rigs we looked at today.
The last couple of trips, we rented a 24 foot rig from a major RV rental company which I towed with our 6.0 liter equipped SUV. With that experience, the Better Half and I will be OK with being in a travel trailer for a limited time in order to establish residence and to find or build our new home.
Today, we drove to one of the area’s larger RV dealers and looked at some of the rolling stock available. I was surprised at how nice some of these are and at a price that seems very reasonable. First things first, though - we need to get our current residence on the market, and that involves getting rid of a lot of “stuff” and some “fixing up.”
Those trailers looked pretty good, though . . . This last trip did little to curb the wanderlust.

A few thoughts, in case you do not already know them. First, anything longer than that 24 unit you are looking at will not only be difficult to maneuver, but also difficult to park - a lot of campgrounds are not set up for longer rigs, especially when they have pull-through slots. Second, bear in mind sail plane area - rigs seem to be getting farther and farther up from the ground, changing your center of gravity and how the vehicle behaves.
Third, for the love of all that is holy and good in this universe, get a sway bar. The number of campers rolling down the highway at 90 without one of those simply blows my mind away.
I may think of a few more things (much of my childhood was spent in one of those boxes), but those are the biggies.

Thanks for the tips, Linoge.
I looked at the link you left and we can go from there. Better half and I just had the discussion about renting a 28 footer with pop-outs to see what that’s like. I think we can request a sway bar too. We’ll post about it when we have done that.
