Now That’s a Barbecue - Too!

Camping at Morro Bay, California. Just watched the sun set over the sparkling blue Pacific Ocean. Before taking the after dinner walk, we enjoyed this simple, but extremely good meal. Tenderloin of beef steaks barbecued to perfection (over a $14 portable grill) with hearts of iceberg lettuce topped with blue cheese dressing.

Now That’s a Barbecue!

Staying at an RV Park isn’t exactly camping under the stars. Case in point, this giant fifth-wheeler and one of the biggest barbecue setups I have ever seen (except on the food channel, that is). After my daily dose of gun bloggers (thanks to Liberty Sphere and the 2A Roundup), I took the dog for a walk during which I spotted the behemoth BBQ.

Tonight, we’re going to barbecue some steaks on a rig about a hundred times smaller than the one above. However, I don’t think that the smaller size will affect how good the steaks are at all. ;)

Otherwise, we’re relaxing and enjoying this time away from the aerospace mine.

Flags

Camping tonight in a place called Flying Flags. It’s located on Avenue of the Flags. And there are flags everywhere. All kinds of ‘em. I like Flags.

Tomorrow there will be more flags. Maybe some other touristy stuff, too.

Packing Up for a Roadtrip

limited-penetration.jpgOver the next few days, the Better Half and I are going to hit the road for a little overdue R&R. I’m going to take the laptop and try to post from the road, but that’s subject to events at hand. I’ll also take along “Fat Man” and a couple of magazines. I’ll also be packing “Jerry Lee” and a speed loader with some “Limited Penetration Projectiles.” The Better Half will be taking “Rosie.”

Point and Shoot

Here is some of what you get when doing a Google® image search on ‘gun camera.’ Of course, I was looking for something else, but these are sorta interesting. Links are to the sites where these were found.

Image Stabilized Zoom

I was playing with the new camera this afternoon in the back yard, when this Eurasian Collared Dove perched on the wire leading into the neighbor’s yard. I estimate the distance to the bird from where I was sitting was about 20 yards. Given that it was a fairly long shot, without a tripod and the magnification was about 30x, I am amazed and quite pleased with the sharpness of the image.

Camera Upgrade

SX110ISI figured that I would need a new camera for some upcoming excursions and to visually record our activities after retirement. I might as well make this investment while I still get my regular working paycheck.

I got it yesterday and while I’m still learning all the details of operation, I’m sure that I’ll be happy with it. Clickable image.

Here’s some information about the new toy.

Canon Powershot SX110IS 9MP Digital Camera with 10x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Black).

  • 9-megapixel image sensor for large photo-quality prints
  • 10x optical image-stabilized zoom
  • DIGIC III Image Processor with Genuine Canon Face Detection
  • 3.0-inch LCD screen; Motion Detection technology and Red-eye Correction
  • Powered by AA batteries
  • capture images to SD/SDHC memory cards

The 10x zoom may come in handy at the range to get close-ups of the targets without having to reel them in.
