Not a Beached Whale
Right up close and personal along SR1 on the California Coastline is a place where you can come face-to-face with an elephant seal - or two - or 30.
This one was talking up a storm.

Año Nuevo? It’s an alarmingly stinky bit of sand too! Much like a Liberal crash-pad from what I remember.

This is the rookery at Piedras Blancas, seven miles north of San Simeon along SR1. And you’re right - in addition to barking loud, they do not smell very good - sort of like the old hippies along the left coast.

I agree about the odor of various mammals. I’ve been down to the Marine Mammal Rescue Center in San Pedro a few times, and WHEEE….does that place STINK!

The Better Half and I often visit the animals at the Marine Animal Rescue, Rehabilitation and Recovery facility. I need to renew our membership before retirement. Smelly or not, the work they do there is important to us.
