Deluxe Delivery

The Better Half snapped a picture of this nice 1950 Chevrolet Deluxe delivery vehicle. It just pulled in to the parking lot of a local auto parts store. Clickable image.

Rosie the Riveter

rosie.jpg

Since the Minstrel names all his guns this or that, I decided to name my little S&W 442 “Rosie the Riveter.” She has rosewood grips and ‘Rosie’ seemed a natural name for her.

And, speaking of Rosie . . .

Like many people, I made the error of presuming that the “We Can Do It” WW2 poster was the original “Rosie” image - wrong! Rosie is the chick that Norman Rockwell painted for the cover of the Saturday Evening Post those many years ago.

Here they are, side by side . . .

Fun With Fireballs

I named my S&W 686 2¾ inch barrel .357 magnum revolver Jerry Lee out of respect for the Great Balls of Fire he makes.

The Better Half and I put about 50 rounds of .357 through ol’ Jerry Lee today at the range. I also took Little Boy, my Glock 26 9mm pistol. Good shoot - lots of fun.

I’m having a great Father’s Day - Santa Maria Tri Tip roast on the grill now, twice-baked Danish taters on the side. It’s good to be Dad today!

Tableware

The table is all set to enjoy this sumptuous meal - Roasted tenderloin of pork with asparagus risotto, acorn squash and fresh grilled pineapple. I’m eatin’ - don’t bother me.

SOG Trident TF1 Folding Pocket Knife

A tip from Linoge in a comment to our previous article about a knife we added to the collection, caused us to consider adding the SOG Trident TF1 folding knife to our collection. The knives we ordered showed up today - one for me and one for the Better Half.

I shot this pantomime video today, showing off the knife. Integral to the knife is the slotted handle that allows cutting cords or seat belts with out opening the knife. To prevent accidental deployment of the blade, a safety in the handle locks the blade in the folded position. To open the blade, you must disable the safety, move the arc actuator lever toward the front of the knife and push the blade open with your thumb behind the thumb post on the blade. - Voila - it’s open!

Folding the blade back into the handle can be a one-handed operation, but takes some practice - hopefully, digital amputation can be avoided.

Here’s the information about this excellent folding knife:

The SOG Trident uses our well-proven means of delivering a knife blade to the open position with S.A.T. (SOG Assisted Technology™) Now using our patent pending Arc-Actuator™, the Trident locks stronger and releases easier. There is also a built-in safety to lock the blade closed. When it shows red, you are ready to go.

What also makes the Trident so unique is the patent pending Groove™ in the handle, which allows the operator to cut paracord, fishing line, etc. without having to open the blade. The handle also includes a Digi-Grip™ variable pattern for coarser grip in areas that require it. Our bayonet style clip is easily switched for right/left hand carry or removed for pouch storage.

  • Blade Length — 3.75″
  • Overall Length — 8.5″
  • Weight — 3.6 oz.
  • Edge — Partially Serrated
  • Steel — AUS 8
  • Handle — Zytel w/Groove
  • Finish — Hardcased Black TiNi

Quote of the Day

Charles Krauthammer on the media’s coverage of the President:

Well, look, the media are so in the tank, really, they ought to get scuba gear…

The inimitable Krauthammer goes on to say . . .

KrauthammerBut what’s really interesting, the president yesterday has said, he complained about FOX, and he said, I think accurately, that it is the one, only voice of opposition in the media.

And it makes us a lot like Caracas where all the media, except one, are state run, with the exception that in Hugo Chavez-land, you go after that one station with machetes. I haven’t seen any machetes around here, so I think we are at least safe for now.

But the rest of the media are entirely in the tank, and it’s embarrassing. You would think it would be embarrassment that would deter them.

Obama does u-turns on all kinds of policies—on taking [public] money in campaigns, on rendition, on eavesdropping, on all kinds of issues, and the press does a u-turn, a whiplash u-turn in step.

In the end, what you have to—could—conclude is that it is, in part, ideological affinity with Obama, but also in part, he’s a rock star, and he sells. So it isn’t only ideology. It is greed. If you have him on the cover, he sells.

And that is the only defense that the mainstream media have, and it isn’t a pretty one — money.

So — just to set the record straight, George W. Bush didn’t whine about ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNBC, CNN, CNN Headline News, PBS, and others running multiple “pretty big megaphones” against his administration — yet the Obamination whines about FOX.

What a wimp!

Eggs of High Caliber

I got nothin’ today. I did a Google of ‘weird guns’ and found this at Geekologie:

I wonder what you could serve with this to make a ’square meal?’ Holster-shaped waffles? Gun-belt Bacon? Ammo-shaped fried potato bits?
