401(K)

A recent summary of my 401(k): Somewhere in the middle waiting for the next throw of the dice.

Superfan

After I got the HDTV, I asked for the DirecTv NFL Ticket Superfan package. Now I get this really neat game-mix screen that summarizes all the action. Another ‘Red Zone’ channel will switch to games where a high probability of a score is imminent.

I like it.

The Gauntlet

gauntlet.jpgFeeling in a nostalgic mood last night, I popped “The Gauntlet” in the DVD player. This is a 1977 Eastwood flick, made while he was married to the very forgettable what’s her name. All of that aside, it was a pretty action-packed flick with lots of gratuitous blowing-shit-up and more shots fired than I can recall seeing for a long time (except for maybe the first 15 minutes of “Saving Private Ryan” another recently-viewed flick).

According to IMFDB, these are some of the guns seen in the flick:

  • Smith and Wesson model 66
  • Browning Hi-Power
  • Smith and Wesson model 10

There were a lot of other guns in the flick, both long and short, that I couldn’t positively identify.

The plot was a thin one, but for an action flick, who really needs much of a plot?

Anyhow, Shockley (Eastwood) played a boozy, has been police detective who has the task of transporting a whore from Vegas to Phoenix. This whore (what’s her name) was to be a witness in a hearing that would implicate the police commissioner with the mob. Thinking Shockley would screw up and fail to bring the witness, he was assigned the job by the commissioner.

The rest was a poetic cacophony of shooting, explosions, helicopters, motor cycle gangs, the whore’s exposed cupcakes, double crossing lawyers and a grand finale when an armor-reinforced bus crashes on the steps of the civic center with a million bullet holes in it.

Very satisfying.

CCWs Revoked by Activist Sheriff

hutchens.jpgAn appointed county sheriff has begun disarming legitimate CCW holders in Orange County, CA. The sheriff was appointed to the post in the wake of trumped-up corruption charges brought against the previous elected sheriff to the post, Mike Carona. Carona saw the CCW as it was intended, that responsible individuals who could demonstrate an ability to carry would be permitted. Now, the rules have been changed by the PSH sheriff.

From the Orange County Register:

. . . the federal indictment against Carona details one specific instance where a wealthy contributor was granted a license under questionable circumstances. [1]

[Sheriff Sandra] Hutchens has said that connection prompted her to review the policies and tighten the standards. [2]

Her revisions, and the revocation letters, have enraged gun activists who are pressing county supervisors to take action.

“There’s a lot of business owners and a lot of gun owners that have had CCWs that have never met Mike Carona or contributed,” said Greg Block, a Huntington Beach-based firearms instructor and activist.

He and many activists suggest a different standard: “If you are not a convicted felon, you should be able to get able to get a CCW in California,” Block said. [3]

[1] Not a crime - may have been completely unrelated to contributions.
[2] A complete knee-jerk reaction to a non-problem.
[3] The real common sense approach.

Time to Go To Work

I guess I better get to working on some stuff for my latest cyber-project. Problem is, I have little free time to do it; at work I’m behind a firewall run by either nuns or Nazis, I’m not sure which. That leaves out 11 hours a day, including the commute. Oh well, I’ll stop whining and get to work . . .

Home Defense Animation - Redux

hide.jpgThanks to David Codrea who mentioned my last post on The War On Guns. I really appreciate that David. Also thanks to Welshman at The Liberty Sphere for providing a link and a mention.

The result of that link was that my traffic increased ten-fold and I got exactly what I wanted from those who responded. I’m going to have to make myself a ’shopping list’ of things that I want to include in the project and produce a ’story board’ that will allow me to visualize and organize the final product.

Thank you all for sharing your approvals, thoughts and criticisms - all very helpful. I will wait a few days to see what else shows up before compiling the data.

I will be asking for a couple of volunteers to download the current animation and install it just to beta test the installation process. If you’re interested in that, please email me so I can provide download instructions. Keep in mind that the current animation is what you will be getting with the improved product to come later.

Thanks again, everyone!
