coverI just started reading this, so I won’t have a critique until later. However, I did get through the first chapter and found the history of guns in self-defense and descriptions of gunfighters of the old west highly entertaining as well as informative.

An excerpt from Amazon’s review describes Effective Handgun Defense by Frank W. James:

Beginning with an exploration of the history of self-defense handguns, the book gives readers a thorough understanding of how the guns have been used through the years. A detailed discussion of today’s most popular concealed carry handguns and holsters follows, aiding readers in selecting the best handgun for their personal needs. Additional chapters cover safety recommendations, fighting calibers, service revolvers, 9mm pistols and the 1911 pistol.

During the passage where the exploits of the James brothers (Frank and Jesse) are discussed, the Author, himself a Frank James, makes the point that he is no relation. It made me chuckle. The book is definitely not heavy boring reading.
