Students for Concealed Carry

Student Group Wants More Guns on Campus

Mike Guzman and thousands of other students say the best way to prevent campus bloodshed is more guns. Guzman, an economics major at Texas State University-San Marcos, is among 8,000 students nationwide who have joined the nonpartisan Students for Concealed Carry on Campus, arguing that students and faculty already licensed to carry concealed weapons should be allowed to pack heat along with their textbooks. “It’s the basic right of self defense,” said Guzman, a 23-year-old former Marine. “Here on campus, we don’t have that right, that right of self defense.”

Clearly, had qualified students and faculty at VA Tech been packing, that insane little weirdo, Cho would have been dead sooner and many of his victims might have been unharmed.

Thankful

I’m thankful for many things today — our troops, our freedom, our guns and our prosperity.

Oh yeah . . . and FOOD!

And the beer too.

The Punisher

punisher.jpgIf you’re into fast-action flix with lots of blowing-shit-up and gratuitous revenge, I recommend watching The Punisher, starring Thomas Jane and John Travolta.

The plot:

Former Delta Force operative and FBI undercover agent Frank Castle had it all: a loving family, a great life and an upcoming desk job. On his final assignment, Castle plays his undercover role perfectly, but the operation spins out of control and a young man, Bobby Saint, is inadvertently killed. Unfortunately, Bobby is soon revealed to actually be one of the two sons of Howard Saint, a ruthless mob boss. Inflamed by the death of their son, the Saints are willing to risk their newfound legitimacy on a wholesale mission of vengeance. Castle’s worst nightmare is about to come true, as Howard Saint’s lieutenants perform a massacre at the Castle family reunion, among the victims include Frank’s wife, his son and his parents. But Castle, to his everlasting torment, is the lone survivor.

Watch it twice and try to notice when Castle utters the Latin phrase seen at the top of this blog.

Breaking: Supreme Court decides to Hear District of Columbia Right-to-Bear Arms Case.

UPDATE: From the DC Gun Case Blog:

Supreme Court Agrees to Hear Second Amendment Challenge to D.C. Gun Ban

November 20th, 2007 by Alan Gura

Washington, D.C.—Today, the U.S. Supreme Court announced that it will hear the case of Heller v. District of Columbia, and decide whether the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects the right to own guns. At issue is a 31-year-old Washington, D.C. law banning handguns and requiring that all shotguns and rifles be kept unloaded and either trigger-locked or disassembled at all times. There is no exception for self-defense.

Alan Gura, lead counsel for the Heller plaintiffs said, “The Bill of Rights does not end at the District of Columbia’s borders, and it includes the right to keep and bear arms. After three decades of failure trying to control firearms in the District, it’s time for law-abiding city residents to be able to defend themselves in their homes. We are confident the Supreme Court will vindicate that right in Washington, D.C., and across the nation.”

The Great Equalizer

gun-gipper.jpg “The gun has been called the great equalizer, meaning that a small person with a gun is equal to a large person, but it is a great equalizer in another way, too. It insures that the people are the equal of their government whenever that government forgets that it is servant and not master of the governed. When the British forgot that they got a revolution. And, as a result, we Americans got a Constitution; a Constitution that, as those who wrote it were determined, would keep men free. If we give up part of that Constitution we give up part of our freedom and increase the chance that we will lose it all. I am not ready to take that risk. I believe that the right of the citizen to keep and bear arms must not be infringed if liberty in America is to survive.” —Ronald Reagan

A Battle Among Gun Control Cities

To see which can be the most dangerous for law abiding folks.

DETROIT — In another blow to the Motor City’s tarnished image, Detroit pushed past St. Louis to become the nation’s most dangerous city, according to a private research group’s controversial analysis, released Sunday, of annual FBI crime statistics.

The study drew harsh criticism even before it came out. The American Society of Criminology launched a pre-emptive strike Friday, issuing a statement attacking it as “an irresponsible misuse” of crime data.

The 14th annual “City Crime Rankings: Crime in Metropolitan America” was published by CQ Press, a unit of Congressional Quarterly Inc. It is based on the FBI’s Sept. 24 crime statistics report.

The report looked at 378 cities with at least 75,000 people based on per-capita rates for homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and auto theft. Each crime category was considered separately and weighted based on its seriousness, CQ Press said.

Last year’s crime leader, St. Louis, fell to No. 2. Another Michigan city, Flint, ranked third, followed by Oakland Calif.; Camden, N.J.; Birmingham, Ala.; North Charleston, S.C.; Memphis, Tenn.; Richmond, Calif.; and Cleveland.

D.C. Second Amendment Case

It doesn’t sound like SCOTUS will be setting the D.C. gun grabbers straight this week after all:

The Supreme Court’s orders announced Tuesday, November 13, did not mention any action on District of Columbia v. Heller (formerly known as Parker v. District of Columbia) or on the related petition by the plaintiffs who were denied standing in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. Any guessing about the reasons for the delay would be just that. Based on the Court’s current calendar, the next possible date for an announcement on the case would be November 26.
