Getting Into the Christmas Spirit

christmasgun.jpg

Christmas is a time for love, peace, family and of course, guns.

A store called Urban Outfitters is selling a Christmas ornament called the glittering gun. It’s just what its name implies - something you hang on your tree to celebrate the season.

The Toronto location of Urban Outfitters refused to comment on the controversial bauble but the company’s Philadelphia head office was more than willing to defend the product.

“The gun ornament is by no means condoning the violence that we face in our city or any other city and it is not meant to celebrate guns or gun violence,” a statement reads. “It is meant only to ironically celebrate the holidays.”

And while the company contends the entire idea is based on irony and many would never allow it into their house, there’s a telling ending to this story: the local outlet here admits it’s almost completely sold out of them.

Damn - and I really wanted one. I’ll have to settle for this maybe.

Behind the Sean Taylor Tragedy

taylor.jpgCondolences to the Family and Friends of 24-year-old Sean Taylor, an upcoming NFL star; likewise to the Washington Redskins and the NFL. It’s particularly tragic when young people - especially those with great talent - meet violent death.

It turns out that there may be more to the story than a break-in and assault. Taylor, himself, was in the final days of an 19-month probation for misdemeanor charges in connection with a firearms-related incident in 2005.

David at War on Guns offers an interesting perspective in his post “Sean Taylor: Death by Gun Control?

The post raises questions about the possibility that there is more of this story to be told. I only hope that the person(s) who did this to Taylor are brought to justice - or better yet, get the punishment that suits the crime (think eye-for-an-eye).

Technorati Profile

This post is so web robots can pat me down to see if I qualify for a Technorati Profile - or not - whatever.

Just don’t taze me, Bro.
